Need some advice. I am participating in a Chili Cookoff tonight and the chili has to be brought hot so I’ve brought it all to work and am going to put it in my crockpot to reheat. The chili is in the refrigerator right now so I am trying to figure out the best way to heat it. How long do you think it will take to heat? Should I just put it in there on warm for a few hours or start it out on a hotter setting and then turn it down?
OK, I may sound weird, but If I’m taking crockpot food with me that needs to be hot I dump the food in another pot and heat on the stove-only takes a few minutes to heat it up thoroughly , then pour the hot food back in the crock pot and take it with me. At the location I keep it on low where it’s supposed to be served. I don’t heat it in the crock pot, because it is hard to determine when it will be hot enough or heated through it may take hours for thick stews or chili so I won’t risk serving cold food. For me It’s just an extra pot to wash but way faster and easier than reheating in the crock pot.
