Ok, so I need to vent a little. I was just looking at recent reviews and was very upset to see that someone has chosen one particular item and gave very low reviews to a number of different recipes of that item. It was quite clear that none of them were even tried, but were judged based on what they know the recipe to be. I would like to say that everyone has their own way of doing things and family recipes that are handed down over time may be changed or were never the ” correct” way in the first place, but were the way that family made it and to them it was wonderful. I for one appreciate when someone has the courage to share a recipe here, opening themselves up to scrutiny and when they have love of a recipe that they would share with another family. I also put stake into reviews that I read and trust that the person at least made the dish. Sorry for my rant! Ok. I’m over it. ;)
Hey vollyball mom, I couldn’t agree with you more. There will always be those people that will critisize and complain. It is one of my biggest pet peaves. If you can cook, cook, if not shut up and learn. I personally do not need to cook with lo-cal and all the other stuff that gets berated but make what I like. I have read so many posts from readers about dough not rising etc and recipe @#$%. If they would take the time to figure out the instructions then should be no problem. From experience if a recipe calls for one cup of flour how is that measured. I use weight measurements for that reason because depending on how you scoop, pour, or sift there can be anywhere from 2 to 4 cups per pound of flour. Also feel if it doesn’t sound like something that you might enjoy move on to another recipe or try making it your own and review on the merits of the base or start point of the recipe. If it was being made then there must be some inspiration from it. That’s what recipes are for and cooking is all about. Personally I murdered some recipes from this site and still gave 4-5 stars because I made a mistake and corrected it. Cooking is a joy and a lot of fun if you want it to be, and as a recipe tester and developer I enjoy every minute including failures. OK you had your rant and I shared mine so we both feel better now. Happy cooking P.S. I’m over it too, cause it’s time for Piadina alla Romagnola (Italian flat breads) with some slow cooked pulled pork. Saw post and had to put my 2 cents in.
