I’m having my 7 year old niece over this weekend in honor of her birthday. I would like to share some fun time in the kitchen with her and make some birthday cupcakes. I would also like to make some fun healthy meals. I want to hear her giggle and have fun making her birthday food. I would appreciate any ideas or fun recipes for kids for both the cupcakes and meals! TIA!
Personal Pizzas! Did this for my son and a friend when he was young. I made the dough, but if pressed for time you could buy a roll of it in the refrigerated section of the grocery store. Divide the dough then let her form it into whatever shape she wants (my son & friend made theirs heart-shaped), and let her add the sauce & toppings. Kids get a big kick out of it, and basically all you have to do is put it in the oven, then take it out! (And they eat the whole thing!) :)
BEST way I have ever made cupcakes with a child! Put the batter into ice cream cones, bake and pipe on the icing!!! Great kid friendly meal to make and eat: PIZZA. Let her mix and stretch the dough. Let her put on the toppings, sauce, and cheese. Can get messy!! My three year old has successfully made both of these tho with minimal help!!
I don’t have a recipe to sure, but an idea…My friend invites me and my three kids over at Christmas to decorate sugar cookies (the one type I don’t make-she bakes them during the day, but you could let your niece help). She makes powdered sugar icing in 4 or 5 colors and put out all kinds of sprinkles, candies, string licorice, colored sugar, etc. and they decorate to their heart’s content. You could get a buzz off of the amount of sugar in the air, but it’s a lot of fun. Tip: she puts a thin plastic film/cloth down on the table and then just rolls up all the bowls and plasticware in it when it’s time to clean up-cinch!
