So I’m hosting my first family thanksgiving this year. I’ve got the menu worked out sans one item, a 2nd side vegetable. Now my problem is I’m basically out of kitchen space so I want something that I can cook in a crock pot. The first side was a green bean casserole and I already have potatoes and sweet potatoes so none of those three.
OK, who’s got a great idea for me :)
I always make brussel sprouts with chestnuts and bacon. Everyone loves them! You can make this one day ahead. I wash, cut in half and steam them until almost done. Cook bacon in frying pan then strain off oil. Add brussel sprouts to pan where bacon cooked, add in some halved chestnuts, a bit of salt, and crumble bacon back in. Add more bacon fat as needed. Delicious!
