Behold: The $1,000 Food Processor that Also Cooks

Is this magic? An appliance that will chop my garlic and onions, and then steam, simmer, or stir-fry them with the rest of my ingredients into dinner, with just the press of a button? The new All-Clad Prep & Cook does all that and also has 12 food processing speeds (along with pulse and turbo—wonder what that looks like), automatic programs for soup, pastry, and dessert, and it’ll even whisk for you.

The Prep & Cook comes with a book of 300 recipes and the promise to save counter space by eliminating the need for other appliances. I’m intrigued…I’m definitely intrigued.

The only downside is that it doesn’t have settings for uniform slicing or grating. Okay, so I’ll still need to hang onto my regular food processor for a few specific tasks. Or maybe I’ll be so enamored with the multi-purposeness of this thing that I’ll lose interest in neatly sliced vegetables and large quantities of shredded cheese.

The other downside might be the price. If someone would like to gift this 1,000-dollar item to me, I will absolutely let you know how that turns out. More than happy to be that guinea pig.
