Cookies Across America!

Hi Peeps,Allrecipes Elizabeth here! We know how much you love making cookies in November and wanted to share the new program we just launched calledCookies Across America. What holiday is complete without a fresh-baked treat made with love from a friend or family member? That is why we are trying to mobilize our passionate community of more than 20 million home cooks to decorate and donate cookies this holiday. We’ve partnered with Crisco®, one of America’s leading producers of cooking oils, shortening and no-stick cooking sprays, andDrop In & Decorate®, a national non-profit organization dedicated to providing joy and hope with decorated cookie donations, to help spread the sweet joy of cookies to those in need. Here are a few ways you can get involved:1.      Throw a Drop In & Decorate party by simply baking some cookies, inviting friends or family (or neighbors or co-workers) to stop in and help decorate, and then donating the cookies to a local food pantry, emergency shelter, or other community agency meeting the basic human needs of food or shelter. 2.      Host a cookie baking supplies food drive at work, with friends, or at your children’s school, and then donate the supplies.3.      Work directly with a shelter or other charitable live-in to throw a cookie decorating party with the residents.4.      Host a cookie bake sale and donate the proceeds to a charity. No matter what you do, make sure to share your story on the AllrecipesFacebookpage, for a chance to win a prize in the Cookies Across America Sweepstakes beginning Dec. 6 and ending Dec. 31.Also, for a little inspiration, check out last week’s What’s Cooking episode where host Michael Ketchum visits three Drop In & Decorate parties around the nation. You can also watch us throw a Drop In & Decorate party live on the CBS Early Show on Thursday Dec. 9 from 7 a.m. – 9 a.m. – feel free to come to the set if you’re a NYC resident, we would love for you to help us decorate cookies on the show! And if you have burning cookie questions, or just burning cookies, Allrecipes is hosting its first LIVE Cookies Across America Webcast sponsored by Crisco on Saturday, December 11, 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. PST at Allrecipes staff members will answer live questions, and prepare classic, easy cookies for the family—everything from sugar cookies to kid-friendly cookies. Allrecipes will also share tips on how to give cookies as gifts and how to ship them properly. So go out there and get your bake on…then share the joy and make a sweet impact in your community!!Peace, love and Cookies!Elizabeth

Hi, Darlaene:nnLooks like you can order it from Amazon. But if you have a big supermarket nearby, maybe they would have it in the baking aisle. It's used to stabilize royal icing. Can you find a recipe for a similar icing that doesn't require meringue powder? Here's one on this site that uses cream of tartar which may be easier to find:n
