Celebrate Bourbon Month With This Cool Cocktail From Louisville's Proof On Main

Bourbon is definitely having its moment in the spotlight, as more savvy spirits fans explore the iconic booze from Kentucky. Purists sip it neat, while cocktails made from bourbon have become trendy yet again, largely thanks to the popularity of aged versions like Pappy Van Winkle arriving on shelves. At the nationally acclaimed bar in Proof On Main in downtown Louisville, that old-meets-new sensibility is warmly embraced in one of the signature cocktails, which is a cross between a Manhattan and an Old Fashioned. Here's a look at how a Proof Positive is made.

Here's the recipe, courtesy of Proof On Main.

2 ounces Old Forrester Signature
.5 ounce Cocchi Rosa
.25 ounce Sorghum Syrup (simple syrup can be substituted)
Dash Fee’s Orange Bitters
Dash Aromatic Bitters
1 piece of orange peel
Marachino cherry, optional
Combine first five ingredients in a mixing glass. Stir with ice and strain into a rocks glass with one large ice cube. Garnish with an orange peel and cherry.
