If you want fun appetizers that boast big flavors, think small. Think Mexican in miniature! These mini appetizers are playful takes on our favorite Mexican, Tex-Mex, and Southwestern U.S. recipes.
Like mini tostadas, thin pretzel crisps are piled high with refried beans, guacamole, salsa, sour cream, and more! Lutzflcat describes them as “creamy, one-bite hors d’oeuvres packed with fresh flavor.”
Easy to make and always a hit, these Mexican mini-quiches are bursting with flavor. “This is truly amazing,” says SamSmidgett. “Although they are so good on their own, I dipped them in a little hot sauce and it made them POP. Man alive they went quickly. Make a double batch!”
All the things you love about tacos with a fusion twist. Baked wonton wrappers stand in for corn taco shells. You’ll fill them up with chicken cooked in sesame oil with red cabbage, grated carrots, soy sauce and teriyaki sauce. “This is a great recipe,” says Devin. “My wife and I love the chicken wonton tacos at Applebee’s, and this is the closest to it.”
These chili bites are simply chili, cheese, and olives baked in mini muffin pans. “Great little appetizer/snack,” says Rae. “I made these for the kids as an after school snack, they loved them and they disappeared quick!”
Like mini-chimi’s, an assortment of traditional Southwestern ingredients are wrapped inside small flour tortillas and deep fried. “Great,” says JAMIESGIRL. “It’s nice to be able to freeze an appetizer ahead of time — all you do is pop them in oil. They tasted like something you would find in a restaurant.”
These Mexican-inspired appetizers are easy to make and the ingredients can be varied to taste. Try varying the layers of cheeses and vegetables for a colorful presentation. “These were excellent,” says WSUDAR. “You can vary the ingredients depending on your tastes.”
“This recipe is a great alternative to fried corn dogs,” says Athena. “And they taste just as good. Serve with the Fiesta Dipping Sauce recipe provided, or use your favorite corn dog condiments.”
Spicy chorizo pairs up with diced tomatoes, cotija cheese, Monterey Jack cheese, and cilantro on mini pizzas. “Simple and fun to make,” says bd.weld. “Get the kids to help making these flavor packed pizzas.”
Top slices of baguette with mashed avocado, chopped cherry tomatoes, minced onion, and cheese and bake them into tasty little appetizer bites. “These are so good,” says MARYG827. “I made them as a snack but ended up eating so many they became dinner.”
